This morning’s parade signifies the start of the Fort Bend County Fair and Rodeo. This is the 81st annual rodeo since the original Fair held in October of 1933. The fair means different things for different people. I remember growing up we never had school on this wonderful day. The parade meant two things to me, a day off school and fresh Shipley Donuts with chocolate milk. We would get up early to find a good spot along the parade trail and eat donuts and kolaches as we watched the School Bands and ROTC programs march down the road among the other floats.
The first day of the fair is a day filled with awesome events. Starting with the Parade in the morning and ending with the Randy Brown and Keven Fowler concert. But that’s not all, there are plenty of events in between including:
- 5k Run
- Rabbit show
- Grapes on the Brazos
- Commercial Heifer Show & Sale
- Student Fun Day
- Fair Queen Scholarship Contest
- Goat Show
- Business Ribbon Roping
- Mutton Bustin’
- Reunion Youth Rodeo
