“Blo Blow Dry Bar is thrilled to join the Sugar Land community,” said Blo Franchise Partner and Sugar Land owner, Phincy Thomas. “We look forward to making the beautiful women of Sugar Land, even more gorgeous!”
What ignited the spark in you to start your own business?
I have been an Occupational Therapist for 18 years and work in pediatric home health. But I felt it was time to start something different and fun at this point in my life! I had heard of this concept years ago when I lived in New York, and after moving to TX, I had gone to similar blow dry bar type salons in Houston city. I realized it was time that Sugar Land had something similar so people in our area didn’t have to drive 30-45 minutes to have that experience! I still love what I do as a therapist though so I definitely won’t be giving that up any time soon!
What obstacles or challenges did you face when starting your business?
It’s been hard trying to juggle work, opening a new business, and being a mother of 3. My husband and parents have been so supportive in this process, couldn’t be doing this without them!
Tell us about Blo Blow Dry Bar and the services you provide.
Blo customers can choose from a variety of blow dry hair styles, including: High Society (a high-altitude bun), Pillow Talk (tousled beach waves), Red Carpet (a smooth, classic blow out with lots of body), Go Fish (a perfectly crafted fishtail braid), Holly Would (a fun, flirty style filled with curls and plenty of bounce), Executive Sweet (skyscraper straight hair), and Hunt Club (a perfectly, polished ponytail). In addition to in-house blow drys and styling, Blo offers blo on the go (botg), blo bridal and makeup services.
Blo Blow Dry Bar’s motto is: “You’re not cheating on your hairdresser”. Blo is North America’s original blow dry bar, with over 115 locations, making it the world’s largest blow dry bar franchise. No cuts, no color: Just wash, blo, go. We also provide makeup services and bridal services the salon or on location. Because it is locally owned by a Fort Bend resident, it allows us to be connected in the community in various ways: events, charities, schools, collaborations with other local businesses. Contact me, I’m open to help any way I can in our local community!
Because it is a luxury service- our clientele tend to be women ranging from 25-55. With that being said, that is a generalization and I hope that we will be attracting girls/women younger and older (maybe even men with longer hair)! Lots of girls/women come to us for special events- special nights out, beauty contests, weddings, homecoming, prom, birthdays, etc. Many others come on a more frequent basis as a way to maintain their beautiful hair styles on a more daily/weekly basis. It’s a great place to come pamper yourself or a loved one, or to plan along with a great night out with friends. Because makeup services are also available- its the perfect one stop shop to get yourself ready before a fabulous night out!
What plans or goals do you have for the future of your business?
I have already connected with some local causes such as FBISD Education Fund, Fort Bend Cares, and the Jingle Bell Run through the Arthritis Foundation. I hope to get connected with more wonderful groups in the future, and continue to help contribute to our local community. Inside the salon, I am planning on creating various workshops/classes that will be open to the public.
