Meet Dorothy Vong of VL Dental – Pecan Grove
Today we’d like to introduce you to Dorothy Vong.
Before we jump into specifics about your business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It started with me growing up extremely shy and too embarrassed to even speak to people because of my crooked smile. We couldn’t afford dental care, and when we finally could, my teeth were too complex for most specialists to work on…except for one orthodontist. He used creativity and thought of a solution to finally straighten my teeth, and it made all the difference in the world. The difference he made in my life is what I strive to do for everyone I meet. Whether it’s completely transforming a broken smile or maintaining already perfect teeth, I am passionate about helping others in any way I can.
Can you tell us some of your challenges you’ve had to overcome on your journey to starting your own business?
The first and foremost obstacle I overcame was my shyness. I knew if I wanted to be a dentist and help others, I must learn to communicate. I joined the speech and debate team and met the best mentors and teachers. They taught me to accept and love myself for who I am, but to love others more.
Let’s talk business! Tell us about VL Dental.
By establishing VL Dental, I have the opportunity to treat individuals and families and keep them at their healthiest possible. We build relationships with our clients and look at everything as a whole, including any medical conditions, underlying causes or factors that may contribute to dental disease. We specialize in helping them feel their most comfortable and addressing any concerns, whether it is allaying the fear of dentistry, restoring a missing tooth with an implant, or giving them the smile of their dreams. We enjoy being involved with the community and giving back what it has given us: the honor of serving and being part of a beautiful, developing area.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to your success?
Any educator will tell you that knowledge is power. As a former teacher myself, I pride in staying current with the latest research and technology to provide the best for my patients. The driving force, however, is dedication and passion to be at our best.
