Boots and Buckles on the Bay Fishing Tournament
Wet the lines and lay the bait at the Fort Bend County Fair Association’s Fifth Annual Boots & Buckles on the Bay fishing tournament. Over $6,500 in cash and prizes will go to winning teams on Saturday, May 19th in Matagorda. Awards include Grand Champion Team trophy belt buckles and boots, and two first-place buckles for the top Redfish and Trout. The fishing tournament is one of several events that are held throughout the year to help bring awareness to the Fort Bend County Fair and raise funds for scholarships.
The Grand Champion team anglers will be reeling in Flounder, Redfish, and Trout. In 2017, the waters were rough, and the winds were strong, but for 26 teams it was a worthy battle for cash, boots, and buckles. Day Money with team members, Dustin Zapdal, Kyle Chandler, Jason Beery, and Cody Poncik pulled away as the overall grand champion team. Lane McCary, of Gulfwater Cowboys, earned Junior Angler Honors. Atkinson Pecan reeled in the biggest Redfish, and Day Money hooked the biggest Trout.
Men, women, and children will be fishing starting early on Saturday morning. A captain’s meeting will be held on Friday, May 18th, at Poco Playa in Matagorda.
Entry forms and tournament rules for the fishing tournament are available… call the Fair Office at 281-342-6171. See you on the Bay in May!
