Best Places to Play Golf in Fort Bend County


With hundreds of public courses scattered throughout the state, Texas has two of the top ten places to golf in the US. It’s not surprising given the great year-round climate and the history of pro-golfer designed courses. Outside of the major cities, some of the best areas to golf in Southwest Houston is in Fort Bend County.

1. Meadowbrook Farms Gold Club – Katy, TX


This course was designed by the esteemed Australian golf legend Greg Norman. Open since 1999, it’s gotten quite a reputation for its great service with 7,000-plus yards to traverse.

You’ll swing your hips on tournament-grade tees and greens that will make you feel like you’re on the PGA tour. You’ll be challenged over and over by the brilliantly designed holes where you’ll take risks and see amazing rewards.

2. Sugar Creek Country Club – Sugar Land, TX


If you’re a recent transplant looking to join a private club, Sugar Creek is the one to join. It’s been open since 1972 and was developed as a member-owned club.

The well-known golf course architect Robert Trent Jones designed the club to build a championship level course like nothing else in the area.

The unique design features three 9-hole courses that wind along a sprawling estate. Relax in the clubhouse between courses or come just to hang out in the clubhouse to have a drink at its full-service bar with upscale dining.

3. Sweetwater Golf Course – Sugar Land, TX


Sugar Land opened in 1982 with courses designed by Roger Packard. Just two years later, it hosted consecutive LPGA tournaments.

Sweetwater features lengthy holes with the ability to set up some open play. Texas winds will try to throw you off your game as you swing to avoid the nearby pecan groves.

Some exciting water hazards and bunkers will challenge the strategist in you. Golfers of all levels will find something fun about playing Sweetwater.

4. Black Hawk Country Club – Richmond, TX


Once called The Houstonian Golf & Country Club, the space offers 450 acres of golfing and plenty of other amenities. If you’re looking for a place where you get get a relaxing spa treatment to meet your golf itch, Black Hawk is your destination.

If you’re looking for private clubs that have it all, look no further. They promise exclusive leisure experiences with pool-side dining, tennis courts lit for any time of day or night, and space for kids to play.
